Children's Ministry ORIENTATION! WOOHOO

Don't forget! If you signed up for Children's ministry in any way (Teacher, helper, nursery, Dorcas) Tomorrow is Orientation day! 10 AM.

We will be done by noon at the latest (earlier, we hope), and the meeting ends with lunch.
This is where you'll get your t-shirt, tour the building, get the 'flow' of a typical Sunday, and get answers for any remaining questions you might have.

See you there! woohoo!

PICTURES!

Be careful what you wish for...Marissa and I both got a TON.

This color is "Tiki Hut" and is on ALL the doors, door frames, and baseboards.

Funny Steve...but the paint is really supposed to go on the WALLS :-).

This is a small sliver of the 63 boxes from IKEA.

One item assembled...2000 more to go (JUST KIDDING! Really much of it got done last night.)

Any pictures from Work Night?

We had a GREAT time at Work Night last night. It was such a blessing to have so many joyful and excited servants come to pitch in. We accomplished a great deal...lots of furniture was assembled and lots of painting completed. Woo-hoo!

I forgot to bring my camera last night...if anyone has pictures to share, would you please forward to me or Amy so we can post? Thanks ya'll!

WORK NIGHT! WOOHOO!!!

Hello Saints!

Just a quick reminder of tonight's events:

As we are working toward the Certificate of Occupancy, this Thursday will be a 'work night' at CCOTL....

Normally, we'd have an agape feast/ prayer night on the first Thursday of the month. We've rescheduled that to the first Thursday we're 'in'.

So tonight, we hope you'll join us for 'Work night at CCOTL'. here's how it will work....

6pm- we'll pray, and feed you fried chicken, and pizza.

6:30- 8pm Doug and/ or another volunteer will help watch the kids (5 and under) at the Nazarene church, so work can begin.

8oclock, childcare ends, but the work can continue as long as you want! woo-hoo!

come when you can, and stay till you can, and do all you can!

the scope of work?

probably some final touch- up painting, carpet tiles to be laid, CLEANING, lots of cleaning!, putting together IKEA furniture. ( a whole truckload should arrive today), and other things...

you might want to bring some very basic tools: hammer, screwdrivers, as we should have tons of Ikea things (if the delivery arrives) and could work in many teams...

If none of this is up your alley, we would also like to have people walking through classrooms, praying for our children's ministry...our children and our children's ministry servants. OR...you can head to the Naz to hang with me and help watch children...

That's it for now! take care!

Doug

Today's inspection

So today while some of the ladies were going crazy at IKEA ;-), the inspector came. He, ironically, asked about the flooring getting finished, but did not indicate that it would prevent our CO (although who knows what the NEXT inspector will say...there seems to be a great deal of "gray" area about what it takes to get the CO). What he did find were things like the fact that the parking lot does not have the planned number of handicapped spaces, we need to post occupancy signs (402 people!) for the building, and we need "as-built" drawings for the sound booth. Two other inspectors were meant to show up; one for the electrical and one for the fire code stuff. Neither one of them ever came. They are now scheduled to come on Thursday. We need the fire guy to come before the holes in the ceiling in the back entrance way can get patched, so hopefully they will actually come this time. At least their reports give us the action items we (and the landlord) need to focus on to move in.

Fred worked on more painting tonight and Bill worked more on the tile. Eric was there all day meeting with (and waiting on) the inspector(s). Since the shopping trip proved more "fruitful" than their vehicles could accommodate, there was no need to unload very many purchases tonight. That's what Thursday will be for! BUT, Eric wants me to remind everyone that some serious cleaning will need to take place before we really start assembling stuff or all our new things will be hopelessly dusty 5 minutes after assembly. If you've spent any time up there or looked at the carpet pictures on this blog, you know what I mean :-).

Question...

What is made up of 63 boxes and has a collective weight of just under 1500 pounds?

Answer: The IKEA furniture that is scheduled to be delivered to our new building this Thursday...just in time for our Thursday night work night.

We've got bookcases and storage cabinets and children's tables and chairs and cribs...even a sofa ...that need to be assembled.

IKEA furniture is very easy to put together. You just need to be able to follow directions (they are written in pictures) and be able to use basic tools.

So if you're free this Thursday night, head on over to our new building for an IKEA assembly party. We'll have childcare at the Naz for ages 5 and under from 6:30-8:00, so this will be a great chance for some of you Moms to get in on the work night action.

Monday night's progress

Given that CR was tonight, the work crew was light BUT Fred managed to give all the tan walls a second coat. He is a painting fiend! Below is that tan color with one of the new classroom signs.

Eric and Phillip worked to get outlet covers on, purchase supplies we were low on, and make lists of things still to be done. Bill worked on the tile some more. And Emily even helped Eric hang the fixtures in the bathroom (toilet paper holders, paper towel holders, soap dispensers, and rehanging the mirrors).
The big surprise today? The inspector is coming TOMORROW to review for the Certificate of Occupancy. We have no expectations that we will pass because the flooring is not done. Hopefully though, we will at least have a list of the things we need to get done before they WILL give us the CO.

Art was there yesterday and put up the signs identifying all the rooms :-).

Here are the two colors in the fellowship hall. See the faint white line at the bottom of the brown wall? That's what I spent the evening touching up.

This is the toddler room. It's very bright and sunny. It is probably the classroom closest to being finished. We need to give the door some paint, and deal with those boxes on the wall (from the security system that Awesome Audio used when this was their space), but other than that, this room is done.

Here's a larger picture of the sanctuary carpet so you can see the border effect.

And here's a close-up that shows the colors better. All that white stuff? That's from footprints. The building is still very "powder-y" from all the work we've been doing.

So what's still to do? Laying the other half of the carpet in the sanctuary, cleaning, painting baseboards, doorframes, and doors, cleaning, touch-up painting, taping the tile to protect it from painting, cleaning, putting together all the IKEA stuff Lisa and Co. have purchased for the classrooms, filling in some missing tile, oh, and did I mention cleaning? Seriously, there's still plenty to be done :-).

Come tomorrow night (Tuesday) if you can to help unload the IKEA purchases. We can use help specifically from about 6-8.

Don't forget Thursday night at 6 is dinner (provided by the church) and then a work night.
